Let’s Play Catch Up

So we’ve been quite busy these last few weeks! We’ve been doing things around the house and yard. Last weekend we must have made 5 trips to Home Depot. Just about $500 later we had installed two new fans, changed out some electrical sockets, painted the last room in our house that needs a makeover, edged/mulched around our trees in the backyard, and finally had a weed wacker to use along our new fence!

Our house was build in 1957 and apparently back then they didn’t like lots of light. We had fans in both our living room and front bedroom, but neither one of them had lights on them. Also our front living room doesn’t have any lights in it. Matt replaced both ugly fans with new ones that included lights. We painted the front room gray. We also got new blinds for our front window and they make a huge difference. When I bought the house every room had these ugly metal blinds that look like they belong in an office building not a house.

This room was originally a mother-in-law suite so there was a small kitchen in there. Next up is removing the kitchen cabinets and replacing that area with two armoires and a dresser to make it a closet/getting ready area. Then there’s a few other things I want to do to the room as well before we move into it as the master bedroom. I can’t wait til it’s all finished because it’s gonna be a nice little retreat!
Last Monday night we had a real big storm that lasted most of the night. We were eating dinner and I kept hearing all these clicks on the windows. I opened the door to look and there was small pieces of hail falling. It was crazy!! About 15 min after that our power went out and stayed out for about 3 hours. Luckily a few weeks ago my Mom made us take a bunch of boxes that had stuff from our wedding out of her office at their house. One of these boxes happened to hold our table numbers, which came in handy lighting up the room.
On the down side of storms is that our dog gets all freaked out when it rains. He paces around, shakes and hides. This also happens when he hears loud noises such as thunder or fireworks. So when we couldn’t find him, we finally realized that he was hiding under the couch. I’m not even sure how he find under there!

All that rain continued on the ENTIRE week! As much as we needed a little rain, it was starting to get ridiculous. I was quite sick of it by Friday especially since we were heading out of town on Friday night and driving in the rain is no fun. By Saturday though the sun was shining again and all was well.
One plus to all that rain thought was that my garden and flower beds are doing great! Lots of squash growing and flowers starting to bloom!! So pretty!!
